Introducing our Roadmap for the Year
Hello, hello! As I mentioned in my last blog post, Year 3 was one for the books: we grew our team, got funded, and made significant strides toward Reaction v1.0.0. Still, that doesn’t mean we’re resting on our laurels—2017 is going to be a banner year, both internally as a company and externally as a platform. This year, we’ll be working one-on-one with our partners, extending our existing core features, and officially unveiling our managed platform to the world.
I’d like to share with you some of the things that we have on our radar. Without further ado, here are some of the major themes on our roadmap for 2017:
We’re ready for business.
We’ve been building Reaction Commerce for a little over three years now, and in that time, we’ve started working closely with a handful of awesome startups and retailers. This year, we’re looking to cultivate even more partnerships with marquee retailers and brands with our Flagship Client Program. If you're interested in joining the program, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
We’re going above and beyond for our inaugural clients, so don’t miss out—be the first to receive direct access and dev support from the core team. It’s a limited opportunity!
As we unveil Reaction to the world, we’ll be hosting more community events, as well as participating in larger conferences to help spread the good word. In particular, if you’re attending Shoptalk 2017 from March 17-22, I’ll be there as a speaker, showing off Reaction to over 2,000 retailers and brands, and I’d love to schedule a coffee meet-up. If you’re going, then let us know in the comments. Vegas is way better with friends!
We’re putting the finishing touches.
For the first quarter of the year, we’re focusing on the entire user experience of the Reaction dashboard. We’ll be polishing things up, fixing usability issues, and refreshing the interface. These are the last bits we’re wrapping up before putting on that “1.0” label later this quarter. If you’d like to follow along and see where we’re headed, check out our project board and view the ‘UIX’ tickets that are in the ‘Ready’ or ‘In Progress’ columns.
We welcome comments on our GitHub issues page and we especially love contributions, if you're so inclined. If you’re not sure where to start, hop into our chat room to learn where and how to get involved.
We’re speeding up deployment.
Soon, you’ll be able to launch your Reaction shops on top of our managed, containerized platform via our simple ‘reaction-deploy’ command.
Our managed platform is built for scale and simplicity. Each shop launches with a virtual microcluster that includes two app servers, replica DBs, load balancer, automatic SSL, multiple staging environments, and more. We’ll have much more to share in the coming months, so stay tuned.
We’re launching marketplaces.
We hear you loud and clear: marketplaces! Our platform will soon be supporting marketplaces, allowing buyers and sellers from all around the world to connect with each other through their products.
While our platform has been architected to support multi-tenant marketplaces for quite some time now, we still have a bit of work to do in order to get things ready for primetime. Rest assured that the #1 most requested feature from our community is on the short list. This is the year!
To follow along or get involved, visit our project board, where we’re tracking all of our work for the marketplace feature.
We’re extending our core features.
We’re continuing to add, enhance, and expand on our core features with every release.
Shipping, taxes, and discounts will all continue to receive attention all throughout the year. In fact, a Shippo integration (“This Shipping API for Ecommerce”) is in progress right now! To learn more, check out the Shippo issue page via GitHub.
We’re all about apps and themes.
As former operators of retail shops and digital marketplaces, we get it! No two ecommerce businesses are alike—each one functions on different workflows, tools, processes, and needs. That’s why Reaction is built to be easily extended and customized: simply add any package from the npm ecosystem to match your business needs. As we look to further expand our app and theme marketplace, adding integrations will play a key role in our roadmap this year.
This year, we’re also going to be focusing on theme editing and initial CMS capabilities. We know that content and commerce go hand-in-hand, and the ability to easily create and manage static pages is important.
We’re building toward our original vision.
From day one, Aaron and I envisioned building an intelligent commerce platform, one that would be driven by real-time data, analytics, and reporting at its core, serving as the foundation for actionable analytics, dynamic merchandising, real-time pricing, promotions, and more. For us, this is the exciting stuff, and this year, it’s all being brought to the surface.
