A look at our new product variant interface

So, you’ve got an ecommerce shop, and you’re selling a variety of products. Some of your products come in different colors and sizes—like t-shirts or even tablet computers. Product variations like this are common, and they’re a critical part of any ecommerce solution. They allow you to group together multiple versions of your product while enabling them to be purchased and tracked separately. This sounds like it should be simple to set up and implement, but those familiar with existing platforms will tell you otherwise.

Jed Bickford “Using Volusion, creating product variants was tedious. I had to constantly duplicate products, and go through 7+ steps every time I wanted to create another variant. Then every time I wanted to change the product description, I had to update each one of these manually. I kept thinking, there’s got to be an easier way to do this.”

At Reaction Commerce, we know that technology can be frustrating, so we’ve designed an experience that’s easier and more intuitive for business owners to navigate their shops from behind the scenes. And product variants is no exception. We’ve made variant management as straightforward and simple while still providing the powerful features needed to run a sophisticated shop.

Here’s how it works:

When you first create a product, you start out with a single primary variant. As you enter your information, all fields are continuously saved in real time.

You can choose to manage your inventory with real-time notifications for “out of stock” and “backorder” states. In the future, we plan to add additional triggers such as status update emails to backorder purchasers and automated social campaigns for low stock/limited supply items.

Adding a second variant is as simple as hitting the clone button.

From there you can add another level of choices by clicking the variant options button. This allows you to build out your product structure in whatever way best fits your business.
